The following are samples of my graphic design work.
One HR logo |
Fred Meyer’s HR department wanted to brand itself, as it had no logo to use for internal communications and recruiting.
I was assigned the task of designing HR’s new logo, which I did using Adobe Illustrator. I came up with three different design concepts and this was the one that was selected. The new logo design was well received and it was used for posters, fliers, recruitment materials, and other documents. |
Apparel Stocking Team Guide Book cover |
A training department co-worker needed a cover designed for their new Apparel Stocking Team Guide Book.
In less than a week, I created the guide book’s cover. It was designed in Adobe Illustrator, with photos provided by Fred Meyer’s Corporate Communications department and edited in Adobe Photoshop. In addition to this design, two additional variants of the cover for Selling and Closing were created, each with a different background color. The cover had a distinct design style, which made it more inviting to read. |
Gold Star Club logo and variants |
Fred Meyer’s HR department wanted to update the logo for the Fred Meyer Gold Star Club, an employee-supported charity for employees in need. I was asked by the HR Director to create the new logo design.
After running some alternate design ideas by the HR Director, a basic design concept was approved. Three versions of the logo were made for a horizontal layout, vertical layout, and 2¼-inch buttons. The logo was designed in Adobe Illustrator, with the modified star element from the company’s clip-art library. With a new logo, the Fred Meyer Gold Star Club’s print and online promotional materials had a fresh and modern logo design. |
SparkPlug poster |
Fred Meyer changed its employee suggestion program, formerly known as ipower, to Kroger’s SparkPlug and wanted to promote the new program within the company.
Tasked with creating a promotional poster, I designed the 22″ x 28″ poster to inform employees how the program works. The poster was designed in Adobe Illustrator, with photos from online public domain image repositories. The result was greater awareness and utilization of the SparkPlug employee suggestion program within Fred Meyer. |
Veterans Day 2014 poster |
As part of the HR department’s recognition of veteran employees, a poster was needed to promote awareness of Veterans Day 2014.
I was assigned to create the 22″ x 28″ poster, which was designed in Adobe Illustrator. The modified soldier graphic came from the company clip art library. The approved poster design was printed and displayed in various places around the main office campus, increasing awareness of Veterans Day. |
Hot Bobby’s Wings logo |

A co-worker’s husband needed a logo designed for his hot wings side business, so I was asked if I could design the logo.
I ran a few alternate designs by my co-worker and after a few minor iterations and changes, the final design was approved. The logo was designed in CorelDraw, with the cartoon chicken based on an image from a royalty-free clip-art library. The logo was used by Hot Bobby’s Wings for fundraising events, banners, labels, chef coats, and advertising. “John designed a great logo for my husband’s hot wings side business that is mostly for fundraising purposes. We have used it on banners, product labels, chef coats and advertising. The design creates a lot of interest, smiles, and represents his product perfectly!” – Kathy Allworth, Fred Meyer Recruiting & Training Manager |
Campaign Treasury Services mailer |

A co-worker with a side business of managing candidate campaign financing needed a mailer promoting his service to potential customers.
I was asked to design the mailer, which I did in just a few days. My co-worker/client was very satisfied with the quality of the mailer’s design and used it to promote his Campaign Treasury Services business. “I have worked with John professionally for over 10 years. He is one of the most reliable, resourceful, and knowledgeable individuals I have ever partnered with. His proficiency with graphics and design are top-notch and his work-ethic and commitment to excellence will exceed anyone’s expectations.” – Michael Richter, Fred Meyer Associate Skills Development Manager |
